Series Synopsis

Retto Enjou and Kirara Hoshino (voiced respectively by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Ai Kakuma) were inseparable when they were kids. However, their once close friendship came to an end when the Censor Bugs invaded.

Beings from another planet, the Censor Bugs plan to eradicate the human race by removing people’s sex drive. Thus, with no means to reproduce, humanity will eventually die out. Such a fate befell a young Kirara, and she has been cold to boys, including Retto, ever since.

Believing the Censor Bugs hurt his best friend, Retto joins the HxEROS squad, an elite team of fighters who uses their sexual desires to fuel their ero energy.

With Censor Bug sightings on the rise, Kirara is once again corned by the invaders. Retto valiantly jumps in to save her, but his efforts are unnecessary. Although extremely uncomfortable with anything sexual, Kirara’s ero powers are among the strongest ever discovered.

Now, Retto, Kirara, and the rest of the HxEROS squad battle to save their world.

Series Positives

Do you want to watch a bunch of big-boobed girls and six-pack ab guys fall into stupidly absurd erotic positions while sometimes getting naked? Well, that’s SUPER HXEROS.

I suppose I could have gotten angry over this show. I could have let it irritate me to the point where I question what the hell I am doing with my life. I could let this review turn into a giant rant that serves no purpose other than to release my own pent up agitation.

But no. That sounds like effort, and frankly, SUPER HXEROS isn’t worth it.

I had intended to use words like “dull,” “uninteresting,” and “boring” to describe this series. As it happens to be, though, I had already beaten those terms to death in the anime review right before this one, Monster Girl Doctor (which you can read by clicking HERE). Granted, SUPER HXEROS was all those things, and I lost complete interest in this show within the first fifteen minutes of episode one. Still, some variety does go a long way.

For what it is worth, SUPER HXEROS wasn’t a carbon-copy of a far superior show like Monster Girl Doctor was. Or, at least, I don’t believe that is the case; nothing comes to mind at any rate. Plus, SUPER HXEROS’ animation much better than Monter Girl Doctor’s.

Hell, had I cared even the slightest bit for this show’s story or characters, I would have thought the visuals incredibly impressive. As it is, all I can see is a bunch of talented animators forced to waste their skills on something so mediocre.

Nevertheless, this is the Series Positives section of the review. Therefore, this artwork does deserve more enthusiasm than I’m giving it.

SURER HXEROS had a ton of bright, vivid colors that were then masterfully complemented by swift, fluid motions. The action scenes were good, and they were, by a considerable margin, the only things about this show I felt were worth paying attention to.

Also, as long as a character wasn’t named Kirara Hoshino, I didn’t find them annoying. Specifically, I found Momoka Momozono (voiced by Sayuri Yahagi) to be a refreshing breath of air. To frame my meaning, let’s recap the premise of SUPER HXEROS:

The HxEros squad uses their sexual desires to fuel their fighting power while combating alien monsters who rob humans of their sex drive. Yes, this setup is beyond ridiculous, but it is what it is, and there’s no point getting bent out of shape over it.

Given that, having someone like Kirara freak out from the mere suggestion of intimacy got real old real fast. Of course, Kirara would say she was shy and that a lot of people are. Yes, shyness does exist, and it is not something to fault someone for. On the other hand, thinking sex is a disgusting, vile, and shameful act that only dirty horn-dog boys care about (like Kirara did) is something else.

Then there was Momoka, who knew what she liked and wasn’t afraid to say it. As I saw it, that attitude fell more in line with what this series’ premise was.

To end this section, it wouldn’t mean much to say changing this one aspect would have saved SUPER HXEROS. There was so much weighing this show down that a single tweak wouldn’t have made much of an effect.

Series Negatives

SUPER HXEROS reminded me of the Senra Kagura anime series; and not in a good way.

Both shows had stories; there was something like a plot to them. They also had characters that did things; often, those things involved fighting and looking sexy. Now I might be opening myself up to an easy rebuttal, but let me ask you this:

If you only know the Senra Kagura anime – meaning you’ve never played any of the games the show is based on – what do you remember about it?

I am willing to bet that most of you will answer the same way – the boobies. And why wouldn’t you say that? In its anime form, Senra Kagura only cared about the fanservice. The same is true with SUPER HXEROS.

Fortunately, if that is all you care about, then SUPER HXEROS might as well be a hidden gem. If you don’t need an exciting story, compelling characters, and only want bouncy-bouncy ecchi time – and I’ll admit, sometimes that’s all I want too – then you’ll probably get a huge kick out of this show.

At least, that might have been a reason to give this series a watch. If you can get passed the fact SUPER HXEROS was incredibly censored, thus making the whole reason for this show’s existence pointless, then there’s still a chance, I suppose.

As a rule, if you take the fanservice out of an anime, what are you left with? In the case of SUPER HXEROS, not much. The story was barebones, the characters were flat – I kid you not, these characters were so very much nothing that I don’t have a single thing to say about them – and the entire series relied on a gimmick it didn’t even fully commit to.

I was not thrilled that I had eleven episodes still to get through when I was over this series after the first.

Final Thoughts

Most of the girls in this show have big boobs and wear skin-tight shirts. If that doesn’t sell you on this series, then nothing will.

The word “erotic” is in the freaking title; you know very well what you’ll be getting when you start. Thus, if you are here for the fanservice, then you’re in the right place. And if you’re hoping for a surprisingly good story with fun character to pop up along the way, I’m sorry to tell you this, but you’re asking for too much.

If you’re looking for an anime to watch and remember, then you can skip SUPER HXEROS. If you want to watch for other reasons, then who am I to stop you?

But these were just my thoughts. What are yours? Have you seen this series? How would you advise SUPER HXEROS? Leave a comment down below because I would love to hear what you have to say.
