These five episodes marked the end of Cardcaptor Sakura season one, and boy, it sure felt like a finale.

Assuming there will be more obstacles for her to learn from, Sakura has mastered the Cardcaptor’s role. In fact, she has shown to be exceptionally gifted in the ways of Clow magic.

It feels like a long time since the days when Sakura ran around, hoping for the best. Now, she has built up a formidable collection of cards. With that, combined with her quick thinking and never-give-up attitude, the young Cardcaptor has proved there is nothing she can’t handle.

Episode Summary

*Note: This was the first episode of Cardcaptor Sakura’s second season.*

Sakura once again has her Tokyo Tower dream. Upon seeing the mysterious woman, Sakura recognizes the shadow as her teacher, Ms. Mizuki.

The dream ends, and Sakura prepares for her first day of the fifth grade. Plus, it is Sakura’s birthday, and she is thrilled when Yukio gives her a gift – a watch.

At school, Ms. Mizuki becomes Sakura’s new homeroom teacher. Although this makes the Cardcaptor happy, she can’t help recalling her dream. However, that thought leaves her mind when she notices snow beginning to fall outside.

By itself, a flurry in April is a rare event, but the amount that is pilling up suggests this is the work of a Clow Card – the Snow.

Sakura heads off to face the spirit and is joined by Syaoran and Meiling. Suddenly, the light snowfall becomes a ferocious blizzard. During the fray, Sakura loses the watch Yukio had given her. In a rage, Sakura releases the full power of the Firery Card, thus defeating the spirit and melting the snow in a single move.

Although Sakura is happy to have collected the Snow Card, she is devastated she lost Yukito’s gift. Fortunately, Sakura runs into Ms. Mizuki, who happened to find the watch.

Elsewhere on the farm, Ms. Mizuki senses Sakura and her friend’s plight.

Back inside the cooking room, Sakura and Syaoran realize they are dealing with the Lock Card. Try as they might, they cannot find a way out or a way to open the door. During their search, though, Sakura sees Ms. Mizuki looking inside from the window. To the Cardcaptor’s surprise, Ms. Mizuki gestures to her neck.

As Sakura is trying to rest, a Clow Card appears. Despite Cerburus pleading to stay in bed, Sakura heads off to face the spirit. As a safe measure, she leaves behind a copy of herself with the help of the Mirror Card.

The group then heads off to Tokyo Tower of all places. Upon entering, the spirit targets Sakura.

Unlike Tomoyo and Syaoran’s, Sakura’s dream is exceptionally vivid. More importantly, though, Sakura is brought to her Tokyo Tower dream, but from a different angle. Here Sakura clearly sees the shadowy figure as Ms. Mizuki.

Unsure of what she is seeing, Sakura begins to grow overwhelmed. Then her dream self tells her that everything will be okay.

Back in the real world, Syaoran manages to capture the spirit – The Dream. This breaks its hold on Sakura, and she successfully seals it away.

Thoughts and Impressions

This was an essential batch of episodes. However, I’m now left with more questions.

It would appear that there is more behind the Clow Cards than previously established. Aside from Ms. Mizuki creepily staring at what Sakura is doing, she was shown to be a much more active player. Sakura’s brother, Touya, might have a much more significant role to play. He doesn’t seem too worried that he has met his sister’s imposter twice.

Compared to “season one,” season one is much shorter. Therefore, I can only imagine we will be hitting something big soon.
