World Trigger
Episodes 49 to 55
During the winter 2021 season, the popular science-fiction action anime World Trigger received a long-awaited sequel. In addition, a third installment is scheduled for a fall 2021 airing.
For context, the first entry in this ten-part Impressions series released in September 2021.
Needless to say, World Trigger fans must be happy (about season two, not, necessarily about what Anime Hajime is doing). Granted, I can only guess at that since I can’t consider myself a World Trigger fan; I have not seen the show – yet. Nevertheless, I have heard this series come up in conversation once or twice, and I can appreciate how exciting a continuation must be.
As such, isn’t it our role here at Anime Hajime to highlight the newest World Trigger chapters? It wouldn’t be right of us to ignore big-name titles.
There is just one problem – World Trigger season one tapped out at 73 EPISODES.
That…that’s a bit daunting. Nevertheless, I intend to do it, and I would like YOU to join me for the ride.
From September 7 to November 9, 2021, Anime Hajime will be showcasing World Trigger, episode by episode. Follow along and witness as I either grow more and more excited or descend into utter madness.
Then on November 16, 2021, watch out for the official Anime Hajime Review: World Trigger.
With all that said, let’s dive into World Trigger, episodes 49 to 55.

Episode 49 – Fugitives from Another World
Episode Synopsis
Border is preparing to continue the B-Rank Wars. Thus, for the time being, the members of Mikumo Squad get some much-needed R and R.
Meanwhile, back at Border HQ, several gates open. From them, dozens of never-before-seen Trion soldiers emerge. It is almost like another invasion. However, in the fray, Yuuichi Jin notices two unidentified Neighbors escape from the battle.
At the same time, Mikumo Squad is undergoing a training camp. During their downtime, they also run into an unknown Trion soldier. What is even more concerning is that not even Yuma Kuga has seen this type before.
Working together, Mikumo Squad is about to deliver the finishing blow to the invader when someone jumps out from the shadows and takes the hit. It appears to be a male humanoid Neighbor.
Taken off guard by this development, the Neighbor manages to attach a device around Chika Amatori’s neck, which, apparently, can kill her. With the two sides at a stalemate, another Neighbor, a female, arrives on the scene.
Episode Impressions
The start of this episode confused me for a second. It sounded as though the B-Rank Wars had concluded off-screen. I certainly hope that is not the case. However, it would appear as though the matches will go on hold for the moment.
Without question, we have entered into a new story arc.

Episode 50 – Invisible Assailants
Episode Synopsis
The two Neighbors introduce themselves as Xeno and Lilith, refugees from the planet Elgates. Although Lilith doesn’t want to cause trouble, Xeno insists on keeping Chika Amatori hostage while they wait for their ship’s repairs to finish.
At first, the plan was to lay low, but an unseen assailant attacks. Mikumo Squad, Xeno, and Lilith retreat to Border’s training camp. There they meet up with Kirie Konami and Kyosuke Karasuma.
Osamu Mikumo desperately tries to think of a way of releasing Chika. However, he learns from Shiori Usami that Yuuichi Jin saw the arrival of Xeno and Lilith and that their presence will lead to a favorable future.
Then, the assailant from before attacks the training camp. Fortunately, with the combined strength of Kirie, Kyousuke, and Osamu, they successfully fend off the assault.
The problem is, similar attacks are popping up all across the country.
Episode Impressions
So, I want to Xeno get his ass kicked in; he is a huge prick. It’s not like he is overly cautious. No, Xeno is just a jerk.
Also, with Mikumo Squad a fair bit stronger, it will be neat to see how they overcome this new enemy. Already, Osamu is showing incredible improvement in his leadership capabilities.

Episode 51 – Xeno’s Trion Soldiers
Episode Synopsis
As the unidentified Trion soldiers appear across the country, Osamu Mikumo and his squad attempt to learn more about Xeno, Lilith, and the nation of Elgates.
On the one hand, Lilith is more than happy to share information with the Mikumo squad; she sees it as the least she and Xeno can do after holding Chika Amatori hostage. On the other hand, Xeno pushes back at every opportunity.
Still, Osamu and his friends’ kindhearted nature does make progress. However, Xeno will only go into details if Osamu can defeat him in a one-on-one match.
Xeno and Osamu’s face-off hardly gets started when the unknown assailant once again attacks. Xeno and Mikumo Squad work together to defeat this enemy; all the while, they don’t notice other Border squads observing their actions.
Episode Impressions
In a way, I have yet to feel any tension so far in this batch of episodes. Since Mikumo Squad has proven they can hold their own and Xeno and Lilith haven’t been hostile, there hasn’t been much to worry about.
I have to wonder how strong this unknown assailant is. It would appear that he is setting up something larger, but otherwise, he’s been a bit of a pushover.

Episode 52 – The Sunset of Meeden
Episode Synopsis
Xeno and Lilith try to make the most of their time while on Earth, but it is proving lonely. Lilith, in particular, is feeling the effects.
Mikumo Squads wonders how they can help cheer Lilith up and decide to take her on a shopping trip. Their plan does seem to be working, but unfortunately, their ruse falls apart. They had taken Lilith to one of Border’s training simulators. Although Lilith appreciates the effort, she can’t help feel a little disappointed.
In one last attempt, Mikumo Squad escorts Lilith to a special place to watch the sunset. While on the way, they have a run-in with the mysterious assailant who has been after them. But like they have done every time thus far, they push their attacker’s forces away.
The group makes it to the spot, and sure enough, it has the desired effect.
Later, at Xeno and Lilith’s hiding place, Chika Amatori walks in on the pair during an unusual embrace.
Episode Impressions
I am waiting for this mysterious assailant to do something.
Also, I know the show has said this guy’s name several times. However, he has done so little in the way of anything that I haven’t bothered to remember it.

Episode 53 – The One that Shall Be Saved
Episode Synopsis
With his mission to apprehend Xeno and Lilith taking longer than expected, the mysterious assailant, Giev, decides to activate a hoard of Trion Soldiers.
While out during their private time, the members of Miwa Squad happened to be on sight when Gieve’s attack commences. Despite the Trion Soldiers being the new variety, Miwa Squad and Border successfully defeat their foe.
However, unbeknownst to Border, Giev achieved his true objective and collected a massive amount of Trion Energy.

Episode 54 – Giev’s Thrust
Episode Synopsis
Having collected a large amount of Trion Energy, Giev activates his ultimate weapon.
At Border’s training camp, Xeno’s condescending attitude finally goes a step too far. When Xeno suggests he will sacrifice Yuga Kuma and Chika Amatori should the need arise, Osamu Mikumo confronts the Neighbor. But before anything can happen, Giev’s assault comes into view.
Should Giev’s Trion Soldier reach the city, it will easily reduce everything to dust.
Osamu, Yuga, and Xeno, accompanied by Ai Kitora, head off to stop Giev. However, Osamu and Xeno quickly fall into a trap.
Given the size of Giev’s Trion Soldier, Yuga and Ai are at a severe disadvantage. Luckily, the rest of Ai’s Arashiyama Squad arrive as reinforcements.
Episode Impressions
Although Osamu’s physical strength is lacking, he can be intimidating when he needs to be. What he lacks in power, he more than makes up for with conviction. This is definitely not a guy you want as your enemy.

Episode 55 – Dead of Alive
Episode Synopsis
During the battle against Giev’s massive Trion Soldier, the Arashiyama Squad, as well as a handful of Border’s top aces, join the fray. But even with this impressive force, the enemy’s strength is immense.
Meanwhile, Xeno has seemingly given up and is angry that Osamu Mikumo hasn’t done the same. Knowing that his fellow Border agents can win, Osamu does what he does best, think. After a quick brainstorm, Osamu comes up with a plan to turn the tables.
Sure enough, Osamu’s suggestion puts Border on the offensive. Seeing that Osamu and his friends might win, Xeno agrees to free Chika Amatori from her shackles.
Once free, Chika blasts Giev’s Trion Soldier to smithereens, thus ending the fight.
Episode Impressions
It is episodes like this one where the long, drawn-out character-building segments pay off. When there is real danger facing our heroes, we know that Border has the skill to take on anything.
Also, as I said earlier, Xeno’s crap attitude does get on my nerves. He is a character that needs a solid punch to the face; even it means he stops complaining for five minutes.

Final Thoughts
I’m not sure if this little story arc has ended. It does feel like we reached some sort of conclusion. I mean, it wasn’t as if Giev’s was threatening or anything.
I do know we have, at least, a bit more time with Xeno and Lilith. While one of those characters doesn’t bother, the other has pushed my patience to its edge.
Additionally, we have cleared the crest. Now, we are closer to the end of this season than we are to its beginning.
