A story like Sonny Boy’s is evidence to show what animation can do over live-action. That’s not to say live-action couldn’t do something like Sonny Boy. However, we at Anime Hajime will go on the record, and claim animation does better.
Sonny Boy is a mind trip and, by that very definition, is a visual-dependent narrative. Thus, imagination and a think-outside-the-box mentality are crucial in bringing the world – or, rather, worlds – of this narrative to life.
Whether said narrative landed is another matter altogether. Regardless, this show’s animation knocked it out of the park.
