The 3rd Annual Anime Hajime Highlights – Top Opening Songs

The Top Ten Opening Song of 2020

To qualify for this list, an anime’s opening theme doesn’t need to be flashy. It doesn’t need to have bright color, swift movements, or catchy visuals. In fact, animation doesn’t come into it at all.

No, to qualify, an opening song needs to get you excited to watch. It is irrelevant if the series turns out to be terrible, and there are a few entries on this list that Anime Hajime did not recommend.

Nevertheless, that opening song gets to you. The mood is established; the expectations are set; you’re ready to begin.

Also, if you hear a particular theme outside of the anime, and you know what show the tune comes from, that is a pretty good indicator of memorability.

With that said, here are the top ten opening songs of 2020.

10. final phase

A Certain Scientific Railgun T

Thrilling, exciting, energetic, and – dare I say it – electric, A Certain Scientific Railgun T’s first of two opening songs “final phase,” let’s you know right away – we have returned to the crown jewel of the Academy City series.

9. Torch of Liberty

KANA-BOON

Fire Force Season 2 (Opening 2)

By the time you get to Fire Force Season 2’s Torch of Liberty you’ll have sat through half the series. And given how good this show, I imagine you’ll already be hooked. Still, this opening song keeps the thrills alive throughout the second half.

8. SPARK-AGAIN

Aimer

Fire Force Season 2 (Opening 1)

No rule says lightning can’t strike twice. Or, in this case, first, but you know what I mean. Fire Force Season 2’s FIRST opening song, “SPARK-AGAIN,” welcomes you back to the world of Tokyo Empire’s Fire Force Company 8. And chapter two is going to bigger than its predecessor.

7. Grey

FOMARE

Golden Kamuy Season 3

Golden Kamuy Season 3’s “Grey” is your first indication that this will be the best installment of the Golden Kamuy series. Something about this song encapsulates where the story’s characters are and where they are going. Thus, connecting this theme and its anime forever.

6. Koi no Uta (feat. Tsukasa Tsukuyomi)

Akari Kito

TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You

To read the TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You review, please click HERE.

Much like its show, the opening song for TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You, “Koi no Uta,” separates from other anime like it. This is not your usual slice-of-life romance; hence, we are given a not-your-usual kind of theme.

5. Easy Breezy

Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken

Here’s an opening song that perfectly captures the feel, tone, and atmosphere. Keep Your Hands Off Eiouken’s “Easy Breezy” is fast, peppy, and full of fun energy, which is perfect since the show is all that and more.

4. Welcome to Chaos

Dorohedoro

This opening song’s title could not be more fitting. Much like its show, Dorohedoro’s “Welcome to Chaos” is weird, but, like, it the best possible way. It comes as silly and slightly uncomfortable. Since its series is a fantastically deranged action-comedy, I would say the pairing is apt.

3. TOP

Stray Kids

Tower of God

To describe this opening, I would go with epicly-majestic. Tower of God’s “TOP” captures the otherworldly atmosphere of its story. There’s a hint of mystery, a dash of adventure, and a healthy dose of larger-than-life scale.

2. Navigator

SixTones

The Millionaire Detective: Balance UNLIMITED

I could find an OFFICAL link to this opening song, which is an incredible shame. The Millionaire Detective: Balance UNLIMITED’s “Navigator” is fantastic. This is a theme that gets you ready to watch; this is an incredible feat since the series itself is a bit of a dud.

1. Contradiction (feat. Tyler Carter)

KSUKE

The God of High School

It was hard to narrow it down, but no matter how many times I came back to it, the results were the same. The God of High School’s “Contradiction” kept ending up at the top. And why wouldn’t it? The song gets you pumped and ready for a fight, a perfect fit for its series.

Thus, “Contradiction” was the Best Opening Song of 2020.
