And so, we’ve made it last. Another year finished; another year passed. We’ve sat through the muck, forgettable, and the awful. We’ve also witnessed the great, outstanding, and the powerful.

What will come next is impossible to say. We can only look back to learn what may.

From drama to comedy, romance to fantasy. From the thrilling and the touching to even heartbreaking tragedy.

Let us remember all that we’ve seen, for they were plenty. Here, finally, is Anime Hajime’s list of the best anime of 2020.


10. Golden Kamuy Season 3

Without question, Golden Kamuy Season 3 is the best the series has done thus far.

While searching for the lost Ainu gold, partners Saichi Sugimoto and Asripa become separated. Their respective parties head into Russia, hot on the trail for a treasure that can reshape the world.


9. Kaguya-sama Love is War Season 2

Kaguya-sama Love is War Season 2 was an impressive upgrade on a show that was already pretty damn good.

Student council president Miyuki Shirogane and vice-president Kaguya Shinomiya continue their battle of love and wits. The one who confesses first is thus the loser, and neither side knows the meaning of defeat.


8. My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax!

Hands down the best love story of the year, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax concludes the tale of Hikigaya Hachiman, Yukino Yukinoshita, and Yui Yuigahama.

The members of the Service Club have reached a critical point. They are the best of friends, but deeper feelings could end up breaking their bond.


7. Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle

Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle was the biggest surprise of 2020; it cannot be understated how much fun this show was.

Princess Syalis is captured by the Demon King. While everyone is wondering what to do about that, the Princess only cares about getting a good night’s sleep – and she will not quit until she does.


6. A Certain Scientific Railgun T

Railgun has always been the crown jewel of the Academy City series, and A Certain Scientific Railgun T was no different.

Mikoto Misaka tries to live a normal life in the extremely abnormal Academy City. However, being one of the most powerful espers, Mikoto must always watch her back.

Dark, frightening, and tragic, Re:Zero Season 2 continues the tale of Subaru Natsuki and his many encounters with death.

Following a climactic battle with the Witch’s Cult, Subaru Natsuki and his friends are attacked by a new enemy. Unfortunately, Subaru’s restart has been rest, so now he must face a new nightmare.

Chaos incarnated, Dorohedoro is a thrill beyond thrills.

Kaiman and his friend Nikaido live in the cesspool known as the Hole. Here, they battle the dread Sorcerers who use the whole for the sick experiments.

Tower of God was a series that never lets go of your attention.

Bam is searching for his beloved friend Rachel. His quest takes him to the trial dungeon adventurers must pass to climb the fabled Tower of God.


2. Great Pretender

Everything about Great Pretender was on point and excellent, a true marvel of a series.

Grifter Makoto Edamura gets roped into joining the gang of the infamous con-man Laurent Thierry. Picking out marks worldwide, Makoto’s skills of deception are put to the ultimate test.


1. Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken

The standard was set early, the standard was set high, and no other series could match it.

Midori Asakusa, Sayaka Kanamori, and Tsubame Mizusaki are members of their school’s Eizouken. Together these three attempt to make the greatest work of animation anyone has ever seen.

With fantastic animation, a phenomenal cast of characters, a hilarious and imaginative story, there could only ever be one winner.

Anime Hajime names Keep Your Hands of Eizouken the Best Anime of 2020.
