Episode 1 – “My Girlfriend Is Super Cute” – April 10, 2022
Episode Summary
Yuu Izumi is a bit accident-prone. Even by just walking down the street, slight misfortunes seem to happen to him, and only him. However, he takes solace in the fact he can count on the love and support of his cute girlfriend, Shikimori.
Although Yuu is infatuated with Shikimori’s adorableness, he knows she can also be incredibly cool and badass. For her part, Shikimori is happy to shield Yuu from his bad luck and will never ask for anything in return.
At the start of the new school term, Yuu laments that he has never been able to look after Shikimori in the way she has done for him. However, Shikimori reassures Yuu that she loves him very much and wants to be by his side forever.
Episode Impressions
That was a short synopsis; I recognize that. And it was short because nothing happened in this episode. All we got was a quick introduction of our two main characters.
Of course, that wasn’t a bad thing, but I was waiting for some twist the entire time. Was there anything more to the titular Shikimori than her being extremely cute and occasionally really cool? That cannot be all this show is. I hope this series picks up soon because this was a lackluster start.
For the time being, I am going to list Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie’s ranking as Poor. Keep in mind that can easily change, and what we care about is where this show will stand at its conclusion. Therefore, don’t go thinking I already hate this series. That is not the case. All I’m saying is, I have yet to be impressed, but we still have a long way to go.
