Episode 2 – “Wind and Clouds, Ball Sports Tournament!” – April 17, 2022

Episode Summary
Yuu and Shikimori’s class are preparing for the school’s annual ball-sport tournament. Although the two want to cheer each other on, due to scheduling, they will be in different events at the same time. However, thanks to Yuu’s notorious bad luck, Shikimori is right by his side when a freak accident sends Yuu to the nurse’s office.
Alone, Shikimori once again demonstrates her incredible cool side. While Yuu loves this aspect of Shikimori, he does wish he could return the favor. So, when the time comes for Shikimori to play, Yuu cheers her on with all his heart. This energizes Shikimori immensely, and she single handily brings her team back to pull off a stunning victory.
After this incredible display, Shikimori’s prestige grows immensely. It gets to the point that all the admirers surrounding Shikimori prevent her from spending time with Yuu. But despite this, the two reconfirm that they both want to be with each other.

Episode Impressions
Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie appears to be setting up a lot of potential storylines. But until we get to those, I don’t think I can get into this show.
It isn’t bad, but my god, it isn’t spectacular either. From everything so far, this series is a pretty middle-of-the-road slice-of-life romance. This show’s entire gimmick isn’t in the least bit impressive because Shikimori is nowhere near the first character to pull off cute and badass-ary.
As a result, I can’t help thinking (or maybe hoping) there has to be more to this show, like it is about to take a much darker turn. Unfortunately, this series is getting to the point where if it is going to make a move, it needs to do it quickly. Otherwise, it won’t be worth sitting through the general blandness to get to something more exciting and noteworthy.
