Episode 4 – “Seriously? That’s So Cringe!” – April 27, 2022
Episode Summary
Tenji Mikasa wishes to destroy all Shiho Sawaragi’s relationships to have her all to himself. So far, his plan is working flawlessly. In the next few rounds of the Sugoroku Game, he intends to secure his victory. But without warning, the Tomodachi Game throws in a curveball.
Moving forward along the board, Shiho lands on a special space. She must choose one contestant to have a secret of theirs revealed. Since the Tomodachi Game office uncovered this secret, it is bound to be the truth. Having nearly convinced Shiho to trust him, Tenji fears she will pick him. If she does, his stealing the original money and applying for the Tomodachi Game might be the revelations.
However, before Shiho can make her choice, Makoto Shibe volunteers, believing he has no secret that will embarrass him. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The Tomodachi Game reveals Shiho’s dad is actually a corrupt government official, who is currently trying to cover up a massive scandal.
Although this crime is Makoto’s dad’s, Tenji appears to turn the situation against Makoto. The next round starts and another bombshell bit of information comes to light – Makoto Shibe has killed someone.
Hearing this, Tenji goes into a panic. He had not written this secret, and given his constant surveillance of everyone, he finds this news impossible to believe. Suddenly, he gets a horrible feeling. Turning around, Tenji sees Yuichi Katagiri standing there with an ominous grin.
Episode Impressions
This series is starting to drag on, it has already given away its biggest secret, and the social commentary is far too heavyhanded. There are plenty of reasons why I find Tomodachi Game to be a bit of a chore.
However, one aspect of this show is keeping my interest – Yuichi.
Last week, I said this series’s characters weren’t the most interesting; thus, it was difficult to care about what was happening. That was mostly true. Yuichi is proving to be the sole exception.
Throughout this episode, I wondered how Yuichi was going to undo or reveal Tenji’s plans. Now, with a show I can’t say I am enjoying, I can’t wait to learn what happens next. There is every possibility Tomodachi Game might pull off a spectacular turnaround.
