Episode 5 – “Orange Scenery” – May 7, 2022
Episode Summary
Ashito Aoi’s mother brings the news of Ashito’s acceptance into the Tokyo City Esperion club. However, while everyone is celebrating, Ashito’s mother accidentally lets slip the thought that she will have to say goodbye to her son.
Later, Ashito talks to Hana Ichijo over the phone. He confesses that he wants to become a pro soccer player because he wants to give his mom a comfortable life. Little does Ashito realize that his mom overhears this conversation. Upon hearing her son’s feelings, Ashito’s mother springs into action.
Over the next few months, Ashito and his family prepare for the day Ashito will leave for Tokyo. Then, with many joyful tears and sad goodbyes, Ashito heads off. However, his mother is not there to see him off. Instead, she leaves behind a note and a new pair of soccer shoes.
Reading his mother’s letter, Ashito realizes how proud his mother is of him. Now more than ever, Ashito’s determination is solidified.
Episode Impressions
For an episode that contained little soccer in this soccer anime, this was, perhaps, the most character-building moment in the series thus far.
Although this show had been doing a great job at building interest, this episode set the excitement for the rest of the series. At least for the next few weeks, I suspect Aoiashi will focus on tension.
I, for one, am looking forward to it.
